A dispute over turning on a fan at Chandigarh University’s hostel in Gharuan, Mohali, escalated into a violent clash on Tuesday night, leaving two students injured. A first-year BTech Biotechnology student was allegedly stabbed multiple times by his roommate, triggering a commotion in the hostel and protests against the university management.

The incident took place at Zakir-B Hostel, where the two students reportedly argued over the use of a fan. Following the incident, police reached the university campus at around 11:40 pm and initiated an investigation.

The injured student has been identified as Aditya, a resident of Bokaro district in Jharkhand, who is pursuing BTech Biotechnology in his first year. He lives in Room No. 1022 of Zakir-B Hostel.

According to the complaint, Aditya’s roommate, Amandeep, entered the room on Tuesday night and switched off the fan. Aditya, who was feeling hot, asked him to turn it back on. This led to an argument between the two.

Aditya later went to lie down on his bed. During this time, Amandeep allegedly returned with a knife and attacked him four times, striking his back, left arm, right leg and left leg.

A physical altercation also broke out between the two students, during which Amandeep sustained minor injuries. Aditya suffered serious injuries and was rushed by ambulance to a nearby private hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, a large number of students gathered in the hostel premises. The situation became tense as students created a commotion and raised slogans against the university management.

Police recorded Aditya’s statement and registered a case against Amandeep. The accused is reportedly absconding, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
