Weather pattern in Chandigarh and the Tricity region is undergoing a gradual change as pre-monsoon conditions begin to develop. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), strong winds with speeds of up to 40 kmph are expected on Monday, although there is currently no forecast of rainfall.
Meteorological officials indicate that pre-monsoon activity is likely to reach Chandigarh between June 20 and June 22. The southwest monsoon is expected to become active in the city about a week later, either during the last days of June or in the first week of July.
IMD Director Surender Pal said the arrival of the monsoon in Chandigarh will depend on its progress after reaching Kerala and the pace at which it advances northward.
This year, seasonal monsoon rainfall is expected to remain below normal. On Sunday, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8°C and a minimum temperature of 20.6°C. The daytime temperature is expected to remain between 36°C and 37°C over the next few days, with a gradual rise possible as the month progresses.
