Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent blasts reported in Amritsar’s Khassa area and near a BSF post in Jalandhar, calling them a deliberate attempt to create fear and disturb Punjab’s peace and communal harmony.
Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Cheema alleged that the incidents are part of a “planned effort” to destabilize the state ahead of elections. He further accused the BJP of using divisive politics across states during election periods, focusing on polarisation instead of development issues.
Referring to recent interactions involving the Punjab leadership and the President of India, Cheema claimed that political developments had made Punjab a “target” and suggested that the blasts could be linked to a larger agenda, while urging caution and investigation.
Reaffirming Punjab’s legacy of unity and sacrifice, he highlighted the state’s historical contribution to national defence and freedom struggles, stating that attempts to divide Punjab on religious or communal lines would fail.
He also emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, the government remains focused on development, education, healthcare, and maintaining law and order.
Cheema assured that the Punjab government will take strict action against anyone trying to disturb peace and reiterated the state’s commitment to protecting national unity and social harmony.
