District-level Independence Day program was held at the Athletics Ground of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana, where Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema attended as the chief guest and unfurled the national flag.

According to Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, the program began at 9 am. MLA Daljit Singh Grewal Bhola arrived at the venue later during the program.

Students from various educational institutions presented cultural and patriotic performances, while contingents of the Punjab Police and NCC participated in the march past. During the function, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema honoured individuals for their contributions to the social sector. Tricycles were also distributed among persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the Ludhiana Police remained on high alert in view of Independence Day. Extensive checking and naka-bandi operations were carried out at several locations across the city.

DCP Harpal Singh said police teams were conducting continuous patrolling to maintain law and order and ensure public safety. He said adequate police personnel had been deployed across the city to prevent any untoward incident. Suspicious vehicles were being thoroughly checked, while the overall security arrangements were being closely monitored.
