Bhagwant Mann on Thursday announced that the Punjab government will launch a major statewide campaign from May 22 to tackle dangerous and aggressive stray dogs posing a threat to public safety. The Chief Minister shared the information through a post on X while welcoming the recent Supreme Court decision on the issue.

Mann said the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab supports the Supreme Court’s ruling and will initiate a special drive targeting stray and violent dogs that endanger the lives of children, pedestrians and residents.

The move comes amid growing concern over the sharp rise in dog-bite incidents across the state. Earlier, on March 10, 2026, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission had taken suo motu cognisance of the issue and sought reports from municipal commissioners and the health department regarding dog-bite cases.
