Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid obeisance at Bhagwan Valmiki Temple in Krishna Nagar, Shimla, on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and extended greetings to the people of the state.
During his visit, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance of ₹25 lakh for the temple and reiterated the state government's commitment to the welfare and upliftment of the Valmiki community.
The Chief Minister said Maharishi Valmiki is a great symbol of India's cultural, literary and spiritual heritage. Through the composition of the Ramayana, he conveyed timeless messages of truth, justice, compassion, sacrifice and duty, which continue to guide society even today.
Sukhu said the state government's objective is to ensure that every family has access to a dignified life, better education and opportunities for self-reliance. In line with this vision, the state government has launched the Maharishi Valmiki Kamgar Awas Yojana to provide housing assistance to eligible sanitation workers belonging to the Valmiki community.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries are provided financial assistance of ₹3 lakh to construct a permanent house. To qualify for the benefit, a family's annual income must be less than ₹2.5 lakh, and the family must not own a permanent house.
The initiative aims to ensure safe and secure housing for eligible families and improve their living conditions. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the government remains committed to the welfare, dignity and socio-economic empowerment of the Valmiki community.
