A new fire station has been inaugurated in Nerwa of Himachal Pradesh’s Chopal region to improve emergency and disaster response services in the area. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu virtually inaugurated the newly constructed facility on Monday and congratulated the residents on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the fire station would not only help tackle fire incidents but would also play an important role in relief and rescue operations during heavy rainfall, landslides and other natural disasters.
He said nearly 55,000 people in the region would benefit from the new facility. Two fire tenders will soon be provided to the station, which will help ensure timely protection for the area’s traditional wooden houses, commercial establishments and valuable apple orchards during fire emergencies.
Sukhu reiterated that the state government is committed to strengthening the rural economy and providing better civic amenities comparable to urban areas closer to people’s homes. He also announced that the government would provide the necessary funds for setting up a milk plant in the region, adding that efforts are underway to secure approval under the Forest Conservation Act for the project.
Chief Minister further informed that Rs 3 crore has been released for the Chopal Mini Secretariat, while Rs 2 crore each has been sanctioned for the Nerwa and Kupvi Mini Secretariats. These facilities are aimed at providing multiple government services to citizens under one roof.
On the occasion, Congress leader Rajeev Kimta expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the new development initiatives in the Chopal area.
