A Congress leader was shot and seriously injured during a late-night dispute between two groups near Jagdev Khurd village, some distance from Ajnala in Amritsar district.
The injured leader has been identified as Gurdeep Singh Sirsa. According to preliminary information, a minor dispute broke out between two groups over an unspecified issue late at night. Sirsa reportedly reached the spot to intervene and help resolve the matter.
During the altercation, the situation escalated and a person from one of the groups allegedly opened fire. Sirsa was hit by the bullet and suffered serious injuries.
He was initially rushed to Civil Hospital, Ajnala, where he received primary treatment. Considering the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to Amritsar for further treatment. He is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Ajnala police reached the spot and began investigating the matter. Ajnala SHO Ajaypal Singh said that the police are examining the incident in detail and are gathering information about the two groups involved as well as the person who allegedly fired the shot.
Police said the exact reason behind the dispute and the circumstances that led to the firing are yet to be established. The statement of Gurdeep Singh Sirsa will be recorded once his health condition improves.
Based on his statement and other evidence collected during the investigation, police will determine the exact cause of the dispute and proceed with further legal action.
