Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh-
Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, today lauded Rahul Gandhi decision of meeting the bereaved family of late ADGP Y. Puran Kumar. Bajwa said this meeting was not just an expression of sympathy but a reaffirmation of the Congress Party’s fundamental ethos — compassion, courage, and unwavering commitment to justice.
“Rahul Gandhi visit reflects the true spirit of the Congress. Our party has never separated itself from the people’s struggles — be it the freedom movement, the defence of farmers’ rights, or the protection of constitutional equality. Wherever injustice has occurred, the Congress has stood with the oppressed, not the powerful,” Bajwa
stated.
He further said that Y. Puran Kumar’s tragic death has once again exposed the caste-based prejudice
and institutional arrogance that continue to haunt our administrative systems. “It is distressing that instead of ensuring justice, vested interests are working overtime to shield those responsible,” Bajwa said.
Citing recent developments in Haryana, Bajwa remarked, “It is a fact that the state government is being remote-controlled by a bureaucrat, who is acting as the de facto authority. In the meeting with senior officials, even Chief Minister Nayab Saini was visibly overshadowed by the Khattar lobby led by Khullar. In the case of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, Khullar is allegedly using his influence to protect his caste kin. It is sad that CM Nayab Saini stated that he can’t suspend a peon even.”
Bajwa said that such caste-driven protectionism strikes at the very heart of justice and equality. He demanded an independent, time-bound inquiry monitored by a retired judge to ensure accountability.
“The Congress Party stands firmly with Y. Puran Kumar’s family and will continue to fight until justice prevails. Rahul Gandhi’s visit reminds us that true leadership lies in empathy — not in silence or
complicity,” Bajwa concluded.
