Faridkot police and Counter-Intelligence teams have claimed to have foiled an alleged terror conspiracy ahead of the Baba Farid Aagman Parv celebrations by arresting a youth and recovering two hand grenades from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Navjot Singh alias Nav, a resident of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar in Faridkot. According to police, the suspect is reportedly a permanent resident (PR) of Canada and is suspected of having links with Pakistan-based terror networks.
Police officials said the accused allegedly received explosive material through a drone delivery. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Counter-Intelligence personnel conducted an operation near Nehru Stadium in Faridkot and apprehended the suspect. A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Fazilka under relevant provisions of the Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Meanwhile, the accused’s father, Suba Singh, said his son had returned to India from Canada on September 12. He claimed that on Thursday evening, Navjot informed him that a courier parcel was expected. According to him, both of them went to Sadiq Chowk to collect the parcel, where police detained them and took them to the CIA Staff office.
Suba Singh said he was released later in the night, while his son remained in custody and was subsequently arrested. He has appealed for a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
Police are currently questioning the accused to verify his alleged connections, trace the source of the explosive material, and investigate whether any larger conspiracy was being planned ahead of the religious event.
