Following the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab a safe and secure state, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have achieved a major breakthrough by busting a cross-border drug smuggling cartel. In this operation, three drug smugglers involved in the trafficking of heroin and illegal weapons were arrested, and 4.5 kilograms of heroin along with a .30 bore pistol were recovered from their possession. This action has exposed an internationally operated drug trafficking network.
Sharing details of the operation, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with a foreign-based handler through social media platforms. Acting on the handler’s directions, the accused were receiving consignments of heroin and illegal weapons from different locations and further supplying them locally. He added that further investigation is underway to establish both backward and forward linkages of the network, and more revelations are expected in the coming days.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurvinder Singh alias Gopi (23), a resident of village Shahwala in Ferozepur; Tilak alias Shibu (18), a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Vihar, Jalandhar, presently living in Mustafabad, Amritsar; and Daljeet Singh alias Lala (20), a resident of village Naushahra Dhalla, presently residing in Mustafabad, Amritsar.
Elaborating on the operation, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that the police initially arrested Gurvinder Singh alias Gopi with 1.5 kilograms of heroin and a .30 bore pistol. During interrogation, the accused disclosed the involvement of his two associates, leading to further recoveries. Based on this disclosure, the police nominated and arrested the other two accused, Tilak alias Shibu and Daljeet Singh alias Lala, from whose possession an additional 3 kilograms of heroin was recovered.
The CP further stated that the investigation revealed that due to his residence near the border area in Ferozepur, accused Gurvinder Singh alias Gopi was actively involved in receiving consignments of drugs and other illegal items through drone drops. It was also found that he was in direct contact with a foreign smuggler for receiving these consignments.
In this connection, a case has been registered at Police Station Gate Hakima, Amritsar, under FIR No. 345 dated 12-12-2025, under Sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25 (6, 7, 8) of the Arms Act.
