In a significant political development, Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, met Mamata Banerjee, chief of the Trinamool Congress, in Kolkata on Thursday.
During the meeting, Yadav expressed support for Banerjee, telling her, “Didi, you have not lost.” The meeting was also attended by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, who warmly welcomed Yadav with an embrace.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said that Banerjee “irritates the BJP” because she represents half the population, referring to women.
“The BJP has a feudal mindset, and its allies have a male-dominated thinking. They do not want to see women progress,” Yadav alleged.
He further said that he closely observed the recent elections and was surprised by the language used and the BJP’s conduct. “What the BJP did in West Bengal was even more intense than what we saw in Uttar Pradesh. Bengal was like a trial ground,” he added.
