Chandigarh Police have made elaborate security arrangements across the city to maintain law and order during Diwali celebrations on Sunday. In view of the expected rush in markets and shopping malls, additional police personnel will be deployed at key locations to ensure public safety.

To keep a close watch on suspicious activities, 42 floating checkpoints will be established at different locations across the city. At the city's entry and exit points, local police personnel, along with troops from the 51st Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), will oversee security arrangements. Anti-sabotage teams and explosive detection squads will also conduct checks in major markets.

SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said the Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Operation Cell would remain on high alert throughout Diwali. Reserve forces will also be kept ready to deal with any emergency situation.

The reserve deployment will include 50 Home Guard personnel, staff from the Regional Training Centre (RTC), Sector 26, water cannons and Vajra vehicles. Additional forces will be dispatched immediately wherever required.

Special attention will be given to women's safety, with dedicated women police squads deployed in busy markets. Female police personnel will patrol on Honda Activa scooters and provide assistance to women whenever needed.

The Cheetah motorcycle patrol teams will remain active from 6 pm to midnight, covering markets, residential areas and locations considered vulnerable to theft.

PCR vehicles will also conduct regular patrolling in prominent sectors, including Sectors 17, 22, 19, 26, 21, 34, 35, 8, 9, 15, 37, 38, 40 and 46, along with Manimajra and Elante Mall.

Additionally, public announcement systems and megaphones will be used to issue security advisories and necessary instructions to people visiting crowded areas.

The police have put the arrangements in place to ensure that residents can celebrate Diwali safely and peacefully.
