Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Wednesday handed over appointment letters to six newly recruited Food Safety Officers (FSOs) in the Department of Food Safety, in a move aimed at strengthening food safety monitoring and enforcement across the state.
The newly appointed officers are Anish Pal Singh, Shivali Bawa, Gurleen Kaur, Isha Rani, Priyanka and Shubham Sharma.
Congratulating the newly recruited officers, Dr Balbir Singh urged them to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, integrity and vigilance. He said ensuring access to safe and wholesome food for every citizen remains a key priority of the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The minister said the induction of the six officers would enhance the capacity of the Food Safety Department, particularly at the field level. The officers will be responsible for ensuring effective implementation of food safety regulations, conducting regular inspections of food establishments, carrying out systematic sampling and testing of food products, and taking prompt action against violations.
Dr Balbir Singh said the officers would be strategically deployed across Punjab according to departmental requirements and would perform their statutory duties under the applicable food safety laws and regulations.
He also wished the newly appointed officers a bright career and urged them to ensure that consumers across the state have access to unadulterated, hygienic and standard-compliant food products.
Principal Secretary Health Kumar Rahul, Director Health Services Dr Hitinder Kaur, Director Health Services (Family Welfare) Dr Aditi Salaria, and Joint Commissioner Food Safety Dr Amit Joshi were among those present on the occasion.
