Colourful Teej celebrations held in Moga and Baghapurana reflected the vibrant spirit of Punjab’s folk culture, with a large number of women participating in Giddha performances, boliyan, folk songs and traditional Punjabi attire.
The events were organised by Moga MLA Amandeep Kaur Arora and Baghapurana MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand. Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, attended both programs as the chief guest. Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill and State Observer Punjab Gayatri Bishnoi were also present.
‘Teej Celebrates Women’s Happiness, Dignity and Unity’
Addressing the gatherings, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann said Teej is much more than a cultural festival and represents the happiness, self-respect and brotherhood of Punjab’s women. She praised women for excelling in every field through their hard work and determination.
Government Schemes Strengthening Women Financially
Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann highlighted the success of the Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojna, stating that the scheme is providing financial assistance that helps women meet personal, family and household expenses while promoting self-reliance and dignity.
She said women attending the celebrations expressed happiness over the scheme, adding that many beneficiaries are using the funds for their own needs, their children’s requirements and essential household expenses.
Punjab Government Focused on Direct Benefits for Women
She reiterated that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government is committed to ensuring that welfare schemes directly benefit women, enabling them to become economically stronger and make independent decisions.
“When a mother or daughter has her own money to fulfil her needs, it boosts her confidence. Economic dignity is the true foundation of women’s empowerment,” she said.
Women Key Drivers of Punjab’s Social Transformation
Raj Lali Gill said Punjab’s women are preserving the state’s cultural heritage while making significant contributions across all sectors. Gayatri Bishnoi added that such events provide a platform for women to connect, share ideas and pass on cultural traditions to future generations.
The enthusiastic participation in the Teej celebrations sent a strong message about the important role women play in Punjab’s social, cultural and economic development.
