Participates in discussion on Punjab Budget in Legislative Assembly

NRI Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh today described the Punjab Budget 2026–27 as a historic, generous and visionary roadmap aimed at ensuring inclusive development, social justice and sustainable economic progress for the people of Punjab.
Participating in the discussion on the budget during the ongoing session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ravjot Singh said that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann remains firmly committed to building a society based on equality, dignity and welfare for all sections of society.
Beginning his address by paying homage to the teachings of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji, the Minister highlighted the concept of Begumpura, a city envisioned as free from sorrow, inequality and discrimination. He said the ideals of Begumpura continue to guide the government’s efforts to create a progressive, inclusive and compassionate society in Punjab.
Dr. Ravjot Singh also appreciated the initiatives undertaken by the Chief Minister for the forthcoming 650th birth anniversary celebrations of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji, which will be commemorated across the state with Nagar Kirtans, Kirtan Darbars and cultural programmes. He noted that the government has made dedicated budgetary provisions to ensure that these celebrations are organized in a grand and dignified manner.
The Minister further thanked the state government for naming the Adampur Airport after Shri Guru Ravidas Ji and allocating ₹140 crore in the budget for its development, stating that the initiative reflects the government’s deep respect for Punjab’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage.
Referring to the guiding principles of social justice, Dr. Ravjot Singh said the teachings of Guru Ravidas Ji and the vision of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar continue to inspire progressive governance. He emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophy of equality and justice forms the foundation of the Indian Constitution.
Highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives, the Minister said pro-people measures such as 600 units of free electricity, the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme and the Chief Minister Teerth Yatra Scheme have provided significant relief to citizens across the state.
Dr. Ravjot Singh also congratulated Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema for presenting the government’s fifth consecutive budget without imposing any new taxes, describing it as a notable achievement reflecting responsible fiscal management and a strong commitment to public welfare.
Welcoming the allocation of ₹20,000 crore for the education sector under Education Revolution 2.0, representing a 7 percent increase over the previous year, the Minister said that strengthening education and healthcare remains essential for empowering youth and securing Punjab’s future.
Dr. Ravjot Singh concluded by stating that the Punjab Budget 2026–27 reflects the government’s steadfast commitment to inclusive growth, social empowerment and balanced development, ensuring that the benefits of progress reach every section of society.
