Jalandhar Police have arrested two men for allegedly carrying out aerial firing while travelling in a car under the influence of alcohol on Qadian Road. The accused have been identified as Deepu, a resident of Basti Danishmanda, and his associate. Police have also seized the licensed firearm allegedly used in the incident.
According to police officials, the action was taken after a video of the firing surfaced on social media and quickly went viral. The footage reportedly showed a group of youths sitting inside a moving car and firing shots into the air with a weapon.
After examining the video and other available footage, police identified the suspects and launched an investigation. Both accused were subsequently arrested and a case was registered against them.
Police said the licensed weapon used in the firing has been confiscated along with its licence. Authorities have initiated the process of recommending cancellation of the firearm licence by forwarding the case to the concerned department.
Investigators are also trying to determine how many rounds were fired during the incident. Further inquiries are underway to establish how many people were present in the vehicle at the time, the exact location where the firing took place, and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police said additional aspects of the case are being examined based on the events visible in the viral video.
