A threatening email sent to Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Friday warned of bomb attacks targeting Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s Jalsa bungalow and Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh. The email also threatened to blow up the mayor’s office, prompting Mumbai Police to launch an investigation and conduct security checks.

According to the email, Bachchan’s bungalow could be targeted at any time between October 31 and November 27. The sender claimed the alleged attack would be an act of revenge for the 1984 Operation Blue Star.

The email also threatened to target Dosanjh in a bomb and suicide attack at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse on November 27. The sender reportedly cited Dosanjh touching Bachchan’s feet as the reason for targeting the singer and made allegations against the actor in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.

Following the threat, Mumbai Police personnel, along with the dog squad and bomb disposal squad, reached the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters and launched a search operation.

Security teams inspected several rooms and searched various chambers, including the offices of the mayor and deputy mayor. No suspicious objects were found during the searches, according to the initial information.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the sender and assess the credibility of the threats. Further details about the probe and security arrangements for those named in the email are awaited.
