A 47-year-old accountant working at a factory in Phase 2 of Ludhiana's Focal Point area allegedly died by suicide after hanging himself at his residence. The deceased has been identified as Sudesh Kumar Bhatia.
His father, Ajit Kumar Bhatia, has accused factory owner Sunil Goyal and his son Sanjay Goyal of mentally harassing his son over a sum of ₹12 lakh.
According to the complaint, Sudesh was employed as an accountant at the factory. The father alleged that Sanjay Goyal used to facilitate financial transactions through bank accounts belonging to some of his acquaintances, with Sudesh's assistance.
However, when the amount involved in these transactions increased, the entire responsibility was allegedly shifted onto Sudesh, and he was repeatedly pressured over ₹12 lakh. The father claimed that the alleged harassment pushed his son into severe mental distress, ultimately leading him to take the extreme step.
On the day of the incident, Sudesh allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fixture using a dupatta inside his room. After noticing him hanging, family members raised an alarm and sought help from neighbours before informing the police.
The police reached the spot, brought the body down and took it into custody. It was subsequently shifted to the Civil Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Ajit Kumar, said that Sudesh was the family's primary breadwinner and that the entire family's responsibilities rested on him. The deceased is survived by his wife and a 16-year-old daughter.
Acting on the father's complaint, the Salem Tabri police station has registered a case against Sunil Goyal and Sanjay Goyal under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation into the allegations.
