Four Accused Linked to Cross-Border Drug and Arms Network; Two Cars Used for Smuggling Also Seized
Faridkot Police have achieved a major breakthrough against a cross-border heroin and arms smuggling network by arresting four alleged operatives and recovering 47.3 kg of heroin, three .30-bore pistols, three magazines and 15 live cartridges. Police have also seized two cars allegedly being used for transporting the contraband—a Honda City and a Hyundai Aura. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on Sunday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ankush, a resident of Ghubaya in Ferozepur; Mangal Singh, a resident of Panjeke Uttar in Ferozepur; Sachin alias Sanju, a resident of Parbhat Singh Wala in Ferozepur; and Anmol Singh, a resident of Lamochhar Khurd in Ferozepur. According to police, preliminary investigation has indicated that the accused were connected with a network involved in the cross-border smuggling of heroin and illegal weapons.
Accused Caught During Special Checking
Senior Superintendent of Police Gurvans Singh Bains said the operation was carried out during special checking and naka-bandi arrangements made in view of the upcoming Baba Farid Aagman Purab. During the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the CIA Faridkot team intercepted a Honda City and arrested all four accused travelling in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the large heroin consignment along with illegal firearms and ammunition. Police subsequently seized the vehicles allegedly used by the accused for transporting the smuggled material.
Drone-Dropped Consignments Received Near Border Areas
According to the preliminary investigation, the gang was receiving consignments of heroin and weapons dropped by drones from across the international border in the border areas of Fazilka and Ferozepur. The material was allegedly collected by the accused and subsequently supplied further into Punjab.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said the investigation is being expanded to identify the wider network and establish the links of those involved in the supply chain. Police are also investigating the source of the contraband and the possible involvement of other people connected with the network.
A case has been registered as FIR No. 187 dated September 20, 2026, at Sadiq Police Station in Faridkot under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act and Sections 25(6) and 25(7) of the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway to trace other members and connections of the alleged smuggling network.
