A Special Court in Chamba has sentenced a father to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor daughter. The court, presided over by Judge Anuja Sood, also imposed a ₹10,000 fine. If the fine is not paid, the convict will have to serve an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
According to Joint Director of Prosecution Digvijay Singh Rana, the case was registered on March 31, 2023.
Prosecution told the court that the crime took place on the night of March 27, 2023, when the accused allegedly assaulted his minor daughter inside their home while under the influence of alcohol.
Victim informed her stepmother about the incident the next day. She later shared the incident with another woman, who informed a local Anganwadi worker. Based on this information, police registered a case and started an investigation.
During the trial, the prosecution presented 19 witnesses. After examining the evidence and witness statements, the court found the accused guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and awarded him 20 years in prison along with the fine.
