CM Mann-Led Punjab Government Reaffirms Commitment to Ensure Quality Agricultural Inputs for Farmers

In a significant crackdown to protect farmers from the sale of unauthorised agricultural products, the Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has registered an FIR against a Haryana-based firm for allegedly storing and selling unauthorised fertilizers and insecticides in Malerkotla district. The action was taken following a complaint filed by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Punjab.

Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian disclosed that the firm, identified as “M/s Unitech Crop Science” based in Jhajjar, Haryana, was found operating a godown in Malerkotla where a substantial stock of unauthorised fertilizers and insecticides was discovered during a surprise inspection conducted by department officials.

Acting swiftly to prevent the distribution of these products to farmers, the department immediately seized the entire unauthorised stock. The Minister stated that further necessary action has been initiated under the provisions of the Fertilizers (Control) Order, 1985, the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and the Insecticides Act, 1968. Additionally, an FIR has been registered under Section 318 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Amargarh in Malerkotla.

Reiterating the firm stance of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government, S. Khudian asserted that the government remains fully committed to ensuring the availability of high-quality agricultural inputs to farmers across the state. He emphasized that any violation of statutory provisions related to fertilizers and insecticides will not be tolerated, and strict action will continue against individuals or firms involved in the manufacture, storage, or sale of unauthorised agricultural products.

Director Agriculture Gurjit Singh Brar further informed that the department has intensified inspections throughout Punjab to safeguard farmers’ interests. He stressed that maintaining transparency, quality standards, and accountability in the agri-input supply chain is a top priority, ensuring that farmers receive only approved and reliable products for their crops.
