A fire broke out early Friday morning at the fruit market located near the Sadar Police Station in Kapurthala, causing heavy damage and panic in the area.
As many as seven temporary shops were completely gutted in the incident, while goods worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed.
Soon after the fire was reported, a PCR team and a 10-member fire brigade unit rushed to the spot and launched a rescue and firefighting operation. Two fire tenders worked for nearly one and a half hours to bring the flames under control.
Authorities managed to prevent the fire from spreading further in the congested market area. However, the exact cause of the blaze is still unknown and is under investigation.
