A fire broke out at the IDBI Bank branch on Railway Station Road in Kapurthala early Saturday morning, causing significant damage to important documents, furniture and other items. The bank’s locker area, however, remained completely safe.

Fire Department received information about smoke emerging from the bank at around 5:59 am. A team led by Fire Officer Gurpreet Singh immediately reached the spot and launched a rescue and firefighting operation. The blaze was brought under control after nearly half an hour of efforts.

Fire Officer Gurpreet Singh said the preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. However, the exact cause will be confirmed only after a detailed investigation.

IDBI Bank Branch Manager Deepak Kumar said he was informed about the fire at around 6 am and immediately reached the branch. By the time he arrived, the fire brigade team had already begun firefighting operations.

Bank Suffers Lakhs in Damage

After the fire was extinguished, officials assessed the damage inside the branch. According to the branch manager, important documents, furniture and other items were badly damaged in the blaze. The bank is estimated to have suffered losses worth lakhs of rupees.

The major relief is that the locker area remained completely unaffected, ensuring the safety of customers’ valuables stored there.
