A fire broke out at the PWD office in Phase 2, Mohali, on Tuesday morning, damaging furniture, records and other office equipment.

Two fire tenders reached the spot soon after receiving the information and launched firefighting operations. The blaze was intense and thick smoke was seen coming from inside the office. Firefighters faced difficulties due to the high temperature inside the building but managed to bring the fire under control after considerable effort.

Preliminary investigation by the Fire Department suggests that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, the exact cause will be established only after a detailed investigation.

Officials said their immediate priority was to contain the blaze, which was successfully achieved. An assessment of the damage will now be carried out. The department will also examine whether fire safety norms were being properly followed at the office.
