A 65-year-old former sarpanch was allegedly killed by his son following a dispute at his residence in Chandan Nagar, Hisar. The incident came to light after family members noticed injury marks on the body while preparing for his last rites and informed the police.
The deceased, identified as Hawa Singh, a former sarpanch of Kharia village, had reportedly been living alone at his house in Chandan Nagar due to a long-standing domestic dispute. According to reports, he had been living separately from his wife and sons for some time.
Police said that around 2 a.m., Hawa Singh’s son Bablu allegedly arrived at the house along with a few associates. A heated argument reportedly broke out between the father and son, which escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Bablu is accused of striking Hawa Singh on the head with an iron rod, leading to his death. Bablu was also reportedly injured during the clash.
Following the incident, the family was informed about Hawa Singh’s death, and his body was taken to the ancestral village of Kharia for cremation. However, while preparations for the funeral were underway, relatives noticed visible injury marks on the body and grew suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the death.
The family immediately halted the cremation and alerted the police. A team from Balsamand Police Station reached the village, took custody of the body, and launched an investigation. Authorities are examining both the condition of the body and the circumstances at the crime scene to determine the exact sequence of events.
Police have initiated further proceedings and are investigating the allegations surrounding the former sarpanch’s death.
