A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four young men in Punjab’s Gurdaspur early Tuesday morning after an Alto car met with a devastating crash on the National Highway.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, and all four occupants died on the spot.

According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion-like sound was heard around 4 AM, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene and alert the police. The victims’ bodies were trapped inside the wreckage, forcing rescue teams to cut open the car body with heavy cutters to recover them.

Police said all four victims were residents of Pathankot and were reportedly travelling towards Pathankot at the time of the accident. One of the deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Vikram alias Vicky, a resident of Teacher Colony in Bhadroa. He worked at a Sleepwell mattress showroom in Pathankot and was the father of two children.

Initial investigation suggests the speeding Alto car may have rammed into the rear of an unidentified heavy vehicle, possibly a truck or trailer, parked or moving along the roadside. However, the exact cause of the accident and the vehicle involved are yet to be confirmed.

ASI Daljit Singh said the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, while efforts are underway to identify the remaining three victims and trace the unknown vehicle involved in the crash.
