Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who chairs the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address employees’ issues, on Tuesday directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to form a Joint Committee to resolve the concerns of National Health Mission (NHM) employees.
The committee will comprise officers from the Health, Finance and Social Welfare Departments, a special invitee from the Education Department, and two representatives of the NHM Employees Union. The decision was taken during a meeting held in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh.
Cheema instructed the Health Department to prepare a comprehensive agenda after consulting various unions functioning under the NHM so that the newly formed committee can work towards an amicable solution to the issues raised by employees.
Emphasising the need for a practical and sustainable resolution, the Finance Minister said the committee should thoroughly examine the financial implications and legal obligations associated with the demands put forward by the unions. He further directed the Health Department to place the final proposal before the Cabinet Sub-Committee for further deliberation and implementation.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee also reviewed issues raised by several teachers’ unions, including the 4161 Master Cadre Adhiyapak Union, 3704 Adhiyapak Union, Computer Teachers Union and the 180 ETT TET Pass Adhiyapak Association (Jai Singh Wala).
Most of the concerns highlighted by the teachers related to salary payments and transfer matters. Taking note of their demands, Cheema directed the Education Department to resolve all legitimate issues in a strictly time-bound manner to provide relief to teachers and ensure the smooth functioning of the education system.
The meeting reflects the Punjab Government’s continued efforts to address employees’ grievances through dialogue and coordinated action across departments.
