Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has rejected speculation about a possible alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in Punjab.
The clarification came amid growing political buzz following a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal in New Delhi on August 7. The meeting had sparked discussions in political circles that the two parties might be exploring the possibility of reviving their alliance.
There were also reports suggesting that CM Nayab Saini was playing the role of a mediator between the BJP and the Akali Dal.
However, addressing a press conference in Chandigarh on Monday, Saini firmly denied any such development. Responding to a question on the possibility of an alliance, he said, “Anyone can meet the Prime Minister. There is no discussion about any alliance.”
He further added that Prime Minister Modi is available to listen to the concerns of all 140 crore Indians, and meetings with political leaders should not be interpreted as indications of a political arrangement.
The statement is being seen as an attempt to put an end to the ongoing speculation surrounding BJP–SAD relations ahead of future political developments in Punjab.
