India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Chandigarh for Saturday and Sunday, warning of the possibility of heavy rainfall over the weekend.
According to the weather department, the expected rain spell could bring a significant change in weather conditions and may mark the beginning of the monsoon's withdrawal from the region. Residents have been grappling with hot and humid conditions in recent days, with Friday's maximum temperature recorded at 32 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 26 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists said that rainfall is likely to lower daytime temperatures, providing relief from the prevailing humidity. A drop in temperature could also lead to a mild chill during early morning and nighttime hours.
Chandigarh has received 697.6 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season, which is 17.2 percent below the seasonal average. Despite the overall rainfall deficit, the city has witnessed several spells of intense rain during the season.
The weather department has forecast continued rainfall activity over the next two days. Following this wet spell, the southwest monsoon is expected to begin its gradual retreat from the region, bringing a transition in weather patterns and cooler conditions.
