A western disturbance is likely to bring a change in weather conditions across Himachal Pradesh, with rain expected in parts of the state on October 24 and 25. The higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba and Kinnaur are likely to receive snowfall, which could further intensify the cold across the hill state.
According to the Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures are expected to drop by 2–3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. The decline is likely to make conditions colder, particularly in high-altitude areas.
However, the weather is expected to clear from October 26. The forecast indicates that the state is unlikely to receive further rainfall or snowfall until October 28.
Cold conditions have already begun to strengthen across Himachal Pradesh. Minimum temperatures in 10 cities have dropped to 10 degrees Celsius or below, while the state's average minimum temperature is around one degree below normal.
Night temperatures in most cities are also below normal, resulting in a noticeable chill during the morning and evening hours. Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti has recorded a minimum temperature of just 0.1 degrees Celsius, reflecting the sharp drop in temperatures in the state's higher reaches.
With rain and snowfall expected over the weekend, temperatures may fall further, particularly in the mountainous regions, signalling a further intensification of winter-like conditions across Himachal Pradesh.
