Himachal Pradesh Police is continuously focusing on road safety and reduction of road accidents in the State. Due to strenuous efforts, substantial decrease in road traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries have been observed during the year 2023 in comparison to last year. Total 2255 accidents, 882 fatalities and 3542 injuries were reported in 2023 in comparison to 2597 accidents, 1032 fatalities and 4063 injuries of year 2022.
State Government has sanctioned 3 Traffic cum Tourist Police Station for upcoming Kiratpur–Manali four lane National Highway anticipating the subsequent issues likely to rose after its inauguration and Himachal Police is thankful to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for opening of these Traffic cum Tourist Police Station each in district Bilaspur, Mandi and Kullu.
To improve traffic flow & road safety on priority segments of the State’s core road network, World Bank has also signed a $82 million financing deal with Government of Himachal Pradesh for Himachal Pradesh State Roads Transformation Project with (HPRIDCL) HPPWD. Under the guidance/supervision of Hon’ble HPPWD Minister, procurement of mobile patrolling vehicles, interceptors, recovery vehicles, enforcement gadgets, setting up of a Road Safety Enforcement Command & Control Centre, restructuring of traffic wing and capacity building of Police in road accident investigation & rescue etc.
