Amid the Education Department’s directives regarding Independence Day celebrations, schools across Himachal Pradesh will now remain closed on August 17. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made the announcement on Friday while addressing the state-level Van Mahotsav held at Nihari in Ghumarwin Assembly constituency of Bilaspur district.
Chief Minister clarified that since schools would be actively involved in Independence Day programs on August 15, students and teachers would be granted a holiday on August 17.
A few days earlier, the Directorate of Education had issued orders directing all government schools in the state to remain open on August 15. The department had instructed schools to celebrate Independence Day with enthusiasm, dignity, and a spirit of patriotism.
The orders also called for the participation of students and schools in celebrations organised at the district, sub-divisional, and tehsil levels. Deputy Directors of Education were asked to issue the necessary guidelines to all government schools in their respective districts to ensure proper observance of the national festival.
With the Chief Minister’s announcement, students and teachers across the state will receive a holiday on the next working day after taking part in the Independence Day celebrations, providing relief after the extensive official programs scheduled for August 15.
