Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress vice-president Chandramani Kulethi died of electrocution while preparing for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s proposed visit to Holi Valley in the Bharmour Assembly constituency of Chamba district.
The incident took place around midnight when Kulethi was putting up posters, banners and flags ahead of the Chief Minister’s scheduled visit. During the preparations, he came in contact with an electric wire and died on the spot.
Hours before the accident, Kulethi had issued a media byte expressing gratitude to CM Sukhu for scheduling a visit to Holi Panchayat. The video, which is now circulating widely on social media, shows him saying that the Chief Minister would interact with local residents, women’s groups and youth organisations near the Nag Temple. He had also said that Sukhu would spend the night in the panchayat.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh expressed grief over Kulethi’s untimely death. The Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Holi to attend his last rites. He has also cancelled all his scheduled programmes in the Holi area for today and tomorrow.
Preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit were underway in the region, with Kulethi working alongside other Youth Congress office-bearers when the accident occurred.
Kulethi’s death has plunged his family and the local community into mourning. He was the only child of his parents, and his father recently underwent surgery. His two-year-old son has also lost his father in the tragic incident.
