Dr. Saket Kumar, IAS, Managing Director, Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL), visited Panipat Thermal Power Station (PTPS) today to conduct a comprehensive review of the plant’s operations and future expansion plans. Plantation was carried out to mark the occasion.
Dr. Saket Kumar held detailed discussions with the plant team, headed by Chief Engineer Sh. Suraj Bhan, and reviewed the technical and financial performance of PTPS. He also assessed the station’s preparedness for the upcoming peak power demand, stressing the need for sustained operational excellence and reliability during the high-demand summer season.
During the site inspection, Dr. Kumar visited key installations including the Main Control Rooms of Units 6, 7 & 8, the Coal Handling Plant, and the Dry Fly Ash Silo. He also visited the Raw Water Reservoir, where desilting work is currently underway, and issued clear directions to expedite its completion. The Ash Dyke was also inspected during the visit.
The Managing Director took first-hand feedback from field and maintenance teams, personally interacting with ground-level staff to understand practical challenges and ensure timely resolution.
A significant highlight of the visit was the on-site review of the proposed 2X800 MW supercritical units, a major component of HPGCL’s future expansion strategy. Dr. Kumar also visited the plant township and inspected residential quarters earmarked for disposal, underlining a focused approach towards infrastructure modernization.
He appreciated the dedicated efforts of PTPS officers and staff, encouraging them to maintain high standards of performance, safety, and professionalism. Dr. Kumar reiterated the importance of optimizing generation costs, maintaining merit order status, and ensuring cost-effective power supply to the consumers of Haryana.
Director/Technical, Chief Engineer/Fuel, and Chief Engineer/Projects were also present during the visit.
The visit concluded on a positive and motivational note, reinforcing HPGCL’s commitment to timely project execution, efficient resource management, and excellence in power generation operations. This visit instilled fresh energy and enthusiasm among the employees of PTPS.
