Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring reached 10 Janpath in New Delhi on Friday to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi amid indications of a change in the Punjab Congress leadership.

Warring appeared disappointed while speaking to the media ahead of the meeting. He said, “I will speak my heart out to Rahul Gandhi.” He added that he would respond to other questions after the meeting.

The meeting comes after Warring resigned as Punjab Congress president following indications from the party high command about a leadership change, around three months before the elections. Warring had also changed his social media profile to describe himself as the former Punjab Congress president. However, the Congress high command has not officially confirmed his resignation so far.

The meeting is expected to cover the appointment of the new Punjab Congress chief as well as possible organisational changes in the state unit.

Warring, while responding to questions about his disappointment after stepping down, said he always remained happy and indicated that he would speak in detail after meeting Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, former Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla is being considered among the prominent contenders for the Punjab Congress president's post. The names of senior leader Partap Singh Bajwa, MLA Pargat Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and MP Gurjit Singh Aujla have also been discussed.

The Congress may announce its new Punjab unit chief after the meeting between Warring and Rahul Gandhi.
