The triumph marked a historic achievement as, for the first time at the Asian Games, both the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold medals. The men’s team also successfully defended its Asian Games title, having previously won gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Tough Battle in the Opening Quarter

India earned an early penalty corner but failed to convert the opportunity. However, another penalty corner soon presented itself, and captain Harmanpreet Singh made no mistake, converting it into a goal in the 11th minute to give India the lead.
Malaysia responded quickly. Just three minutes later, Shello Silverius scored a field goal to bring Malaysia level at 1-1.
The equaliser made for an intense contest as both sides continued to battle for control of the final.
