The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, organized a grand event on the occasion of its 59th Foundation Day. The event took place at the Institute’s Pool Theatre and featured various cultural and literary performances. The Chief Guest for the event was Padma Shri award-winning musician Prof. Som Datt Battu, who was honored during the ceremony.
The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a virtual welcome address by the Director of the Institute, Professor Raghavendra P. Tiwari. This was followed by the honoring of Prof. Som Datt Battu, who shared his thoughts on music and culture in his address.
Prof. Som Datt Battu is a renowned musician who has made significant contributions to Indian classical and folk music. His work has been appreciated both nationally and internationally. He has given Indian music a new identity and has represented Indian music on various national and international platforms. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2024 for his remarkable contributions to the field of music.
