The Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa, lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Haryana government for resorting to police excesses once again to strangulate the peaceful foot march protest of the farmers of Punjab.
"The BJP government in Haryana has erected an international border-like barricading with a heavy police deployment at the Shambhu Border as if Punjab is not a part of this country. By doing this, the BJP government in the centre and Haryana has been building a sense of alienation among the Punjabi farmers," Bajwa added.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that several farmers have been injured after the oppressive BJP government fired tear gas shells against the Punjabi farmers once again. The Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has apparently crossed all limits of viciousness. If the farmers cannot even protest peacefully in their own country, what rights do they have in a democratic setup like ours?
"Peaceful protests are the safety valves for the people to vent their anger and make their voices heard. Suppressing such protests often turned out to be catastrophic," said Bajwa.
