A Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable, Aashiq Hussain, was martyred after succumbing to injuries sustained in an attack on a police team in Anantnag district.
According to officials, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police deployment in the Kokernag Road area. Multiple gunshots were heard during the attack, leaving Head Constable Aashiq Hussain critically injured.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident and said the entire area has been cordoned off. Security forces have launched a massive search operation to trace and apprehend the attackers.
Following the attack, security has been intensified across the region. Forces are closely monitoring nearby areas for any suspicious activity as efforts continue to identify and arrest those responsible.
