A man allegedly stabbed a young woman at her house in Jalandhar’s Maqsudan area on Tuesday morning. When the woman’s mother rushed to save her, the accused stabbed her as well. The man later fell from the roof of the house while attempting to escape from people who had gathered there and died.
The deceased has been identified as Om Preet Singh, a resident of Nandanpur in the Maqsudan area. The injured woman, Manpreet Kaur, and her mother are undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar.
According to eyewitnesses, Om Preet Singh arrived at Manpreet Kaur’s house in Anand Nagar, Street No. 3, on his Pulsar motorcycle on Tuesday morning. As the main door was open, he allegedly entered the house and attacked Manpreet with a knife.
Manpreet reportedly raised her hand to defend herself, sustaining a knife injury to her hand. Hearing her screams, her mother rushed to intervene, but the accused allegedly stabbed her in the arm as well.
Locals Rush to Help Mother-Daughter Duo
The cries of the mother and daughter alerted neighbours, who rushed into the house. Workers at a nearby construction site also joined them and attempted to apprehend the accused.
However, on seeing the crowd, Om Preet Singh reportedly ran up the stairs to the roof. Eyewitnesses said he subsequently lost his balance and fell from the roof. He did not get up after the fall.
Police were informed about the incident, and the injured mother and daughter were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. The police also shifted Om Preet Singh to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Suspected Poison Consumption Under Investigation
According to eyewitness accounts shared with the police, the accused may have consumed poison before arriving at the woman’s house. They reportedly said he appeared unsteady during the incident and that a foul smell was coming from his mouth.
Locals claimed that he fell from the roof on his own and that nobody had physically touched him before the fall. The exact circumstances leading to his death, however, remain subject to investigation.
Marriage Dispute Suspected as Motive
According to local residents, Om Preet Singh had returned from Dubai around six months ago and wanted to marry Manpreet Kaur. However, the woman and her family were reportedly unwilling to agree to the marriage.
The suspected marriage dispute is being considered a possible motive for the attack, but the police are investigating the case to establish the exact reason behind the incident and the circumstances surrounding the accused’s death.
