In a major breakthrough against organised international crime and fugitives, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have arrested Manjit Singh Bedi, a wanted fugitive allegedly involved in a high-profile fraud case linked to the US government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

According to police, Bedi allegedly carried out a multi-million-dollar fraud under the US food assistance program before fleeing to India via Canada in April 2026 to evade law enforcement.

SNAP provides food and nutritional assistance to economically vulnerable families in the United States. Bedi is accused of large-scale financial fraud and manipulation of the program and had reportedly been placed on the list of wanted fraud suspects by US investigative agencies.

The arrest marks a significant achievement for Punjab Police in tackling transnational organised crime and fugitives. The action also highlights the increasing coordination between law enforcement agencies in tracking suspects who attempt to evade arrest by crossing international borders.
