Justice Sheel Nagu has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India. Following his elevation, the President of India has appointed Ashwani Kumar Mishra as the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The official orders regarding the appointments have been issued.
Earlier, Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments through a post on X. He stated that, under Article 124(2) of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, had approved the appointment of several judges to the Supreme Court, including Justice Sheel Nagu.
Justice Sheel Nagu was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 4, 2024, and took oath on July 9, 2024. He served as the 36th permanent Chief Justice of the High Court and remained in office for 692 days.
During his tenure, Justice Nagu delivered several significant judgments and played an important role in the administration of justice in the region. His elevation to the Supreme Court marks a major milestone in his judicial career.
