Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of drug trafficking in Punjab, asserting that the fight against narcotics should begin from Gujarat’s Mundra Port rather than solely focusing on Punjab.
Kejriwal made the remarks while reposting a social media post by BJP national president Nitin Nabin on X. Responding to the BJP leader’s message, which cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern about protecting Punjab’s youth and future from the menace of drugs, Kejriwal questioned whether enough attention was being paid to the sources and routes through which narcotics enter the country.
“If there is even a fraction of concern for Punjab, then drugs coming from Gujarat should be stopped,” Kejriwal said, adding that the battle against narcotics should start from Mundra Port, which he described as a key point requiring stricter action.
AAP leader argued that efforts to curb drug abuse should not be limited to action within Punjab alone but should also focus on dismantling supply networks and blocking entry routes used for trafficking narcotics.
The statement comes amid an ongoing political tussle over the drug issue in Punjab. The BJP has been intensifying its campaign against drug abuse in the state and has been holding the Punjab government accountable for tackling the problem. In response, AAP leaders have been raising concerns about the larger supply chain of narcotics and demanding stronger action against trafficking networks operating outside Punjab.
Kejriwal’s latest remarks indicate that AAP intends to broaden the political debate on the drug issue by focusing on the origins and transit routes of narcotics, while continuing to press the Centre for action against drug smuggling networks, including those allegedly linked to entry points such as Mundra Port.
