Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday intensified his attack on the Centre over the proposed E-20 policy, alleging that the Modi government was trying to prevent the National Town Hall Against E-20 from taking place in New Delhi.
Addressing a press conference at the AAP headquarters, Kejriwal said the town hall is scheduled to be held at the Constitution Club on August 1 at 12 noon and will go ahead as planned despite what he described as attempts to stop it.
According to Kejriwal, the venue had already been booked, paid for, and officially confirmed, but police allegedly approached the Constitution Club and asked it not to allow the event.
“The approval had already been granted, payment had been made, the receipt had been issued, and the booking had been confirmed. When the police asked the club to cancel the booking, it refused,” he claimed.
The AAP chief further alleged that after the club declined to cancel the booking, police officials approached the organisers and insisted that they obtain permission for the program.
Kejriwal questioned the need for permission for an indoor event, arguing that no such requirement normally exists.
“I want to ask the Prime Minister what permission we are supposed to obtain. Do we also need permission to eat, drink, bathe, and sleep?” he said.
He accused the Centre of using the police to intimidate political opponents and citizens, claiming that people were no longer afraid of such tactics.
Reiterating his opposition to the E-20 policy, Kejriwal demanded that the government withdraw it immediately.
“The Prime Minister will have to withdraw E-20. He should withdraw it peacefully. Otherwise, the people will force its withdrawal,” he asserted.
National Town Hall Against E-20 is expected to bring together political leaders, experts, and citizens opposing the policy. The Centre has not yet issued an official response to Kejriwal’s allegations regarding the event or his demand for the withdrawal of the E-20 policy.
