Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its campaign against the E-20 petrol policy by announcing a nationwide public outreach initiative. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the party will organise the "National Town Hall Against E-20" at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on August 1, where citizens can participate either in person or virtually.
Addressing a press conference at the AAP headquarters, Kejriwal said the event will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will bring together automobile experts, vehicle owners, and people affected by the E-20 fuel policy to discuss its impact and formulate a strategy for taking the issue forward.
People outside Delhi can join the event online by sending a WhatsApp message to 8588833212 before Friday. Participants will receive a link that will allow them to join the programme anytime after 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, he said.
Kejriwal claimed that the E-20 fuel policy has led to problems for vehicle owners, alleging that it has adversely affected vehicles and reduced fuel efficiency. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the issue before it escalates further, saying that many citizens are facing difficulties due to the policy.
During the press conference, Kejriwal also congratulated the country's youth over the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, claiming that public pressure had forced the government to act. He appealed to the Centre to similarly resolve concerns surrounding the E-20 fuel policy.
He further said the Town Hall would provide a platform for experts, vehicle owners, and others interested in the issue to share their experiences and suggestions. According to Kejriwal, the discussions will focus on building public consensus and deciding future steps to press the government to reconsider the implementation of E-20 petrol.
Kejriwal also urged people from across the country to participate in large numbers, either by attending the event in Delhi or by joining online. He added that an online petition addressed to the Prime Minister has already received over 200,000 responses, and he plans to submit it to the Prime Minister's Office next week.
