A major security alert has been triggered in Punjab’s Jalandhar district after alleged pro-Khalistan slogans were found written inside a government school in Kotla Heran village of Shahkot area and a Khalistan supporting flag was reportedly placed in the principal’s office.
Incident created panic in the area, prompting police and security agencies to swing into action immediately.
According to preliminary information, slogans supporting Khalistan were found written on the school walls. Authorities are also examining claims that a Khalistan-supporting flag was displayed inside the principal’s office. Investigators have begun collecting evidence from the school premises as well as surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a designated terrorist currently based abroad, released a video on social media referring to the incident. In the video, he allegedly threatened the Punjab government and made objectionable remarks regarding India’s Independence Day on August 15. Police said the authenticity of the video and its possible connection to the incident are also being verified.
Investigation agencies have taken possession of CCTV footage from the school campus and nearby locations. Local residents and school staff are also being questioned as part of the probe.
Officials said police are trying to identify those responsible using technical evidence, surveillance footage, and other investigative inputs.
DIG Naveen Singla confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway.
“Police are examining all aspects of the case. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty during the investigation,” he said.
DIG further stated that any attempt to disturb peace and law and order in Punjab will not be tolerated. Police and security agencies are continuing to closely monitor the situation.
