Rahul Sharma, son of a well-known kulcha-chole vendor in Ludhiana, was shot dead during an incident following a birthday party on Wednesday night. He sustained two bullet injuries, one to the chest and the other to the back.
According to his family, Rahul had left home in his Scorpio SUV late Wednesday night, saying he was going to attend a birthday party. A dispute allegedly broke out during the gathering, following which he was shot. The incident reportedly took place on the road connecting Phullanwal Chowk to J Block Mall.
The family came to know about the incident around 12:30 am when Rahul’s friends called his brother-in-law and informed him that Rahul had been admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) with gunshot injuries.
When the family reached the hospital, they were informed that Rahul had died at around 11:55 pm. The family subsequently informed the police.
Rahul had married three years ago. He is survived by his wife, parents and a married sister.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and initiated an investigation. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting and questioning people to establish who fired the shots and what led to the incident.
Police are also scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the assailants and trace their movements. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
