A 38-year-old man from Kehar Singh Nagar in Ludhiana's Haibowal area allegedly died after consuming a poisonous substance following a family dispute. Before taking the extreme step, he reportedly recorded a 3-minute and 43-second video message and left behind a suicide note.
The deceased has been identified as Vijay Kumar Pathania. According to his family, Vijay consumed the poisonous substance on Wednesday evening. In the video, he allegedly accused his wife of having an illicit relationship with one of his cousins and claimed that he had been subjected to harassment by members of his in-laws’ family. Police have not yet verified these allegations.
Vijay’s brother, Ajay Pathania, a resident of Tibba Road, said Vijay had been married for around nine years. He alleged that some members of the in-laws’ family had been interfering in Vijay’s married life since the beginning of the marriage. He further claimed that Vijay’s wife had been living separately for some time and that he faced difficulties in meeting his two children.
According to the family, Vijay had gone to meet his children a day before the incident. A dispute allegedly broke out during the visit, after which he returned to his rented room in Haibowal. Family members said that he later wrote a suicide note, recorded the video message and consumed the poisonous substance.
As his condition deteriorated, Ajay rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Ludhiana. Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to a hospital in Kharar.
However, Vijay reportedly died on the way to the hospital on Thursday.
The family said the body would be brought to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
