A woman in Ludhiana allegedly died after consuming a poisonous substance, with her family accusing her husband of harassing her over unlawful demands. Police have registered a case against the husband under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the complaint filed by the deceased woman's brother, Pawan Kumar Sahni, a resident of Urban Estate, Jamalpur, his younger sister Ritu Khanna was married to Sandeep Khanna. He alleged that after the marriage, Sandeep frequently harassed and troubled Ritu over certain unlawful demands.

The complainant stated that distressed by the alleged harassment, Ritu consumed a poisonous substance on September 17. When her condition deteriorated, family members rushed her to a local hospital for treatment, where doctors declared her dead.

Investigating officer ASI Hardev Singh said the deceased's post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted later in the day. The report is expected to determine the exact substance she consumed and provide further clarity on the cause of death.

Police said Ritu and Sandeep had been married for around two-and-a-half years. It was the second marriage for both, and they did not have any children. Further investigation into the case is underway.
